‘I thought I was going to die’: Brittany Fish shares kidnapping story on ‘Dr. Phil’

Hours later, a man heard the girl whimpering outside the Schuyler Road warehouse and found her under the tarp. He comforted Fish, she remembers, and called 911.

Her rescue and the eventual arrest of Kevin Schaus was big news at the time, making headlines in newspapers and TV stations across the nation and some overseas.

Years later, Fish remains close to the man who found her. She told Dr. Phil she has asked the man to walk her down the aisle when she gets married in May.

Fish was not the only survivor to appear on the show.

Shae, now 18, was abused by Schaus -- a family friend -- when she was 4. When police interviewed Schaus in 2005 about abusing the girl, he admitted kidnapping Fish.

Shae hugged Fish during her short appearance with her parents on “Dr. Phil.” Her last name was not given.

Schaus, now 46, is serving 20 years to life in prison for kidnapping Brittany and two other girls from Central New York. He’s currently imprisoned in the Clinton Correctional Facility, state prison records show, and is slated to have his first parole hearing in 2024.
